Recology Open House, Samoa, CA • 03.17.2019 • Matt Filar
There is a treasure located in Samoa of which few are aware – Recology. For many of you, trash and recycling get picked up and they go away. Trash goes to Eureka, and recycling goes to Recology. Recology held an open house on March 17, and visitors could were given tours of the impressive system of receiving, sorting, crushing, compacting, storing, and transporting. But the treasure is a large museum of a room off the lobby that contains many items that were lovingly recovered from what had been received at the plant. Operations Manager Brian Sollom gave me a solo tour of the plant. The Open House was hosted by Recology and General Manager Linda Wise. Visitors were shown how to make their own beeswax food storage wraps, alternative dishwasher detergent, and were served pancakes and cookies. Jiff Gillespie Duffy showed visitors how to make their own beeswax wraps. The public is invited to tour the facility, and I recommend that you do so. Best to call first.
