47th Avenue of the Giants Marathon

Grayson Hough of Davis, wearing Bib #100, leads from the start of the 2018 Avenue of the Giants Marathon to end in first place after running the scenic 26.2 mile course in a time of 2:25:54. Blake Zufall of Redding, wearing Bib #220 in the center, and Benjamin Stern, wearing Bib #468, finished in second and third place with times of 2:40:09 and 2:45:24 respectively. Runners began at the intersection of the Avenue of the Giants and Bull Creek Flats Road near Weott. It was the 47th running of the event.

Mental Health March

Marchers for mental health awareness took to the streets, walking to the Humboldt County courthouse from the HOPE Center near H Street and Harris Avenue in Eureka. May is Mental Health Awareness month, with more than 100 marchers making the trek, including police officers, clinicians, social workers, early childhood advocates, intervention services and other community-based organizations marching in support of the community understanding mental health services available locally.

The inaugural Eureka Friday Night Market had the best of turnouts sampling the best of Humboldt goods, music, foods, vegetables and even history as hundreds jammed E Street between Second Street and Third Street, Eureka. The uniquely Humboldt event was presented by the Eureka Visitor Center, Eureka Main Street, Humboldt Made and the North Coast Growers Association Farmers Markets.
